HINTS AND TIPS

Cleaning

Polyester Based Vinyl

Only use soap and warm water to clean your cover, and do not use anything abrasive such as scouring pads as this will scratch the material. A well diluted washing up liquid solution is best and must be rinsed off thoroughly with clear water. Other cleaning materials have harsh chemicals which will damage your cover. Try to clean your cover on a regular basis; if the dirt is allowed to build up it will be harder to shift. Remove leaves and any other debris as soon as possible as if left this can leave a slimy substance, the other thing to look out for is duck poo! The chemical make up of duck poo means that it can cause a chemical type burn to your boat and cover so again we advise that you clean this ASAP.

To bring back the 'as new' shine to your canopy we recommend a product called ArmorAll or Son Of A Gun which can be purchased from most vehicle accessory stores e.g Motor World. These products are also a U.V protectant.

Acrylic Based Canvas

Hose down regularly to prevent dirt becoming ingrained in weave of fabric, do not use pressure washers.  Wash carefully without excessive scrubbing using water at temperatures below 40 degrees C and soft soaps.  Do not use detergents, chorine solutions or solvents.  Rinse thoroughly and allow to dry naturally.  Do not tumble dry.  Ensure fabric is dry before storage.

Repairs and Adjustments

Dependant on the condition of the cover and the material it is made from we would be happy to undertake repairs or adjustments for you, from a replaced zip to having a window put into your canopy. Please contact the office to discuss your requirements and advise us of an estimated time of arrival to ensure we have somebody available to carry this out for you. Most repairs/adjustments can be done while you wait.

Press studs and Seams

To keep press studs in good working order apply a touch of Vaseline to the inside of the stud on the cover. We also recommend using Vaseline on the outside of the main seams if you have a problem with them leaking.

Roll it don’t fold it

It is definitely worth taking the time to roll up your side panels properly. Do not fold them and please try to avoid the temptation in throwing them over the top of the boat. Folding the cover will crease the window and if repeated over a period of time will reduce the life span of the window. If the side panels are thrown over onto the top of the roof section it can twist the zips and distort the teeth which you will then have to get a replacement zip.
